For Hanna Wondimagegne, this summer has been about looking beyond the task list and using her internship as an opportunity for career exploration.

‍

Working with the Accounting team, Hanna has gained exposure to the technical side of the business while also seeing how accounting connects to the broader real estate industry, from the work happening inside the office to the projects taking shape across the communities around us.

One of her biggest takeaways has been the importance of pairing technical knowledge with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

“Having the technical knowledge gets you in the room. People skills determine what happens once you're there.”

Her advice to future Davis interns: ask questions, but not just about the work in front of you. Use the internship to learn about different career paths, different parts of the business, and the people whose experiences can help shape your own.

For Hanna, the most memorable part of the summer has been visiting Davis properties and development sites. Seeing new projects in person has helped her better understand how real estate fits into the neighborhoods and landscapes she grew up around.

As she continues exploring her career path, Hanna is especially interested in connecting with CPAs and professionals at public accounting firms, particularly those who work with real estate clients.
